Hyperhidrosis

Don't let the fear of excessive sweating hold you back from wearing certain outfits or from social events. There is an effective and painless solution.

Sweating is a normal and essential bodily function which is necessary to regulate body heat. Hyperhidrosis however refers to a condition where this normal function is working in overdrive and falls out of the boundaries what is considered acceptable. This can often become apparent around puberty.

The two most commonly affected areas are the hands and underarms. This is known as focal hyperhidrosis.

Both hand (palmar) and underarm hyperhidrosis can lead to both social embarrassment and emotional distress. In extreme cases, the sufferer may avoid social interactions altogether.

In the case of palmar sweating, the sufferer may avoid physical contact such as shaking hands or having their hands on display, often having to dry their hands numerous times during the day only to have to repeat this minutes later.

Likewise, for someone suffering from underarm hyperhidrosis , it is not uncommon for them to leave home with numerous changes of clothes or to avoid wearing light colours for fear that the “telltale” wet patches will appear. This can lead to further anxiety which in turn increases the amount of sweat produced. It is easy to see how this can become a vicious cycle. Not only are the visible signs of excessive sweating embarrassing for some, but there can also be a distinctive odour that further increases distress and embarrassment.

If you suffer from hyperhidrosis, you may feel like you’ve tried everything, but there are options available that will significantly reduce your excessive sweating.

We offer the option of Botulinum Toxin (AKA BOTOX) as an effective treatment.

This involves small injections administered to the affected areas. The treatment is quick and relatively pain free. No recovery time is required meaning you can return to normal activities immediately.

Results can be seen within 2 weeks of treatment and for many, will offer relief for up to 6 months and beyond (although this will vary from person to person).

This treatment is a prescription only service, therefore, you would need to come into clinic for a consultation prior to treatment.

Hyperhidrosis treatment is only available to clients over the age of 18 and would not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
