Facial expressions are a result of muscle contractions which activate when we laugh, frown or squint. Over time, lines and wrinkles develop due to the continuous contraction of these muscles. Creases begin to appear, typically around the eyes (crows’ feet), between the eyebrows (frown line or elevens), and on the forehead even when the muscles are at rest. Wrinkle Relaxing is a term used to describe injections of a medication which will reduce the ability of these muscles to contract. The medication used to do this is called Botulinum Toxin. There are various brands of Botulinum toxin licensed for aesthetic use in the UK that you may have heard of: (Botox®, Bocouture® and Azzalure®).
