What can we do for you?
As you may know there are differences in doctor and nurse training and of course they are completely different professions.Drs and nurses generally work within the NHS system during and after their training.
They can then specialise in different areas within the NHS, or they may add to their skill set with advanced training.
Aesthetic services do not follow the same path because it is a private service.
As a private service both Drs and nurses will need to source approved training providers and fund training themselves.
There are many aesthetic training providers around the UK that will only accept medical professionals. In order to train in medical aesthetics, it makes no difference if you are a doctor or a nurse as the training is identical.
Prescribing rights
Doctors will have prescribing rights after they qualify, but nurses will need to take additional training if they wish to have these prescribing rights.
It is advisable to see an injector who does have prescribing rights in order to receive a holistic, safe and seamless service.
As an example, in the rare cases of infection after a procedure, your practitioner will be able to prescribe a course of antibiotics should this be necessary, without delay.
Vibe matters
A practitioner may have all the qualifications on paper but you are just not feeling the vibe. We can’t all like everyone after all.
It is also important to be sure that your practitioner takes the time to really understand your concerns and that their ethos matches with yours.
Further training
When it comes to choosing an aesthetic practitioner the most important questions include how much experience they have and are they able to manage a complication.
Whether your aesthetic practitioner is a nurse or a doctor it is the effort that has been put into further training and education that can be the deal breaker. Every medic ie Drs, nurses, midwives, paramedics etc should be trained by an approved medical aesthetic training provider but are not obliged to access further training (although most do).
In summary, when it comes to aesthetic practice, it makes no difference whether you see a Dr or a Nurse for your aesthetic treatment. Their training will have been exactly the same.
When it comes to choosing the right person for your treatments, it will almost always be the personality of the practitioner as well as their skills that will be the deciding factor.
