What can we do for you?
Dermaplaning is an excellent way to temporarily rid your face of fine, downy hair (AKA peach fuzz). It is also an intensive manual exfoliation treatment. It should always be performed by a trained professional as the instrument used is extremely sharp, so they need to know their stuff. So, what’s the deal with getting rid of peach fuzz and deep exfoliation?
Firstly, let’s talk about the peach fuzz issue. The fine hair on your face isn’t really a big problem, except that make up tends to sit on the hair meaning it will need reapplication more quickly. Removing it gives your skin a smooth canvas for makeup and creates almost an airbrushed effect. Fair haired people especially, may really be bothered by this hair which can be quite extensive.
Darker skinned/haired people again, can really hate the shadow of darker hair, particularly in the side burn area. The biggest concern for many is the fear that the fine hair will grow back thicker and courser than before. Totally understandable that this is not what woman tend to want, so be reassured that this won’t be the case. The peach fuzz hair is officially called vellus hair and can only ever be vellus hair. When it grows back after dermaplaning treatment, it will be exactly as it was before, just as fine, and just as soft. The type of hair that shouldn’t be removed with dermaplaning is dark, spikey (terminal hair). That’s the stuff that can give a beard like feel.
The deep exfoliation that comes from this treatment is also like a magic wand to your skin. Skin cells renew themselves every 4 weeks or so. The older we get, the less effectively we are able to shed off the old dead skin cell. This leads to dull, tired looking skin and the fresh skin cells underneath just can’t get a look in. Dermaplaning will safely and painlessly remove 2-3 weeks’ worth of those old skin cell, allowing the lovely fresh skin to shine through.
Dermaplaning can also help with reducing the appearance of age/sunspots, pigmentation, and even fine lines on the face. It would take more than 1 treatment however to see these kinds of results.
Dermaplaning is recommended to be done no more than every 4 weeks in order to work with the skins natural growth cycle. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing, so any more frequently also runs the risk of over working the skin, leading to spots and breakouts.
If you are looking for a way to get glowing, fresh skin that also has longer term benefits for your skin, dermaplaning is definitely a good shout.
