Which dermal filler is the best?

When it comes to anything that is injected into your face, it makes sense that you would want to know what the product is and where it has come from. Not only this (although this should be your top priority), but the question of which is the best filler for the job is also important.

Dermal fillers of any make and brand all have one thing in common in that they are all made up of a gel like substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). You will no doubt have seen the virtues of HA on skin care ads etc. It is the magic ingredient responsible for hydration and volume in skin.

Whilst HA is the key ingredient, not all fillers are equal.

Dermal fillers will varying concentrations of HA, and with good reason.

If you take for example, the cheek area.

In order to restore a natural volume, the filler would need to contain a high concentration of HA. When you compare this to the lips where the tissues are more delicate, a lower concentration is needed if you want to avoid an overdone and unnatural look.

As well as HA concentrations, dermal fillers also have varying degrees of crosslinking during manufacture. In simple terms, crosslinking determines the lifting and volumising capacity of a filler.
Get this bit wrong and you may either have a disappointing result or feel completely overdone. Neither of these outcomes are ideal.

Fortunately, visiting an expert injector who knows their products inside out should reduce the chances of this happening.

There are a huge array of fillers to choose from, ranging from budget to premium brands. The most important question to ask your injector is where they have sourced their fillers from.

Only medical injectors are able to purchase from registered pharmacies (and I would hope they all do).
Pharmacy bought fillers ensures that they are genuine, CE marked and have been stored correctly. Products purchased in any other way will invalidate insurance. Even worse, there is no guarantee they are genuine. Fake products could be extremely dangerous.

Choice of dermal fillers is also down to the preference of the practitioner. There is nothing wrong with budget fillers if cost is a concern, although, we prefer to stick to premium brands for the ultimate results.

What is important to bear in mind, however, is the price being charged. If you are paying less than £100 at the absolute minimum for a treatment, we can almost guarantee that you are getting less than even the basic budget range, and definitely not a premium product.
Why use a premium brand?

Some premium brands (the Teoxane range for example), also have the stretchability factor. This means that the filler moves in harmony with facial movement, giving incredibly natural and long lasting results.

Examples of premium fillers (in order of our preference)

When considering dermal fillers, we recommend always consulting an expert, and choose quality over quids.
