Jowl Treatments

A great option to rejuvenate the lower face by adding support, structure and definition resulting in a refreshed and balanced profile

Jowls are a constant cause of irritation for many people as they contribute to a sad expression and the appearance of ageing. I’m sure many of us have looked in the mirror and pulled our skin back wishing we could stay that way. Fortunately, there is good news when it comes to treatments available to improve their appearance.

Jowls form more a variety of reasons. Very commonly it the result of volume loss higher up in the cheek area. When this support is lost, the facial tissues start to descend resulting in the appearance of jowling. The appearance of the nose to mouth lines (nasolabial folds) can also become deeper as a result.

Jowling can also be exaggerated when there is loss of support under the mouth, or when the chin is lacking definition and projection.

The recommended treatment in this case would be by strategically replacing the lost volume with dermal fillers in order to regain support and definition.

In addition to volume loss, the appearance of jowing can be further increases due to the pull of certain muscles in the lower face and neck.

These muscles are very strong for many people, and the pull down effect increases over time.

When these muscles are relaxed, they are unable to pull down as strongly as before, resulting in a tighter and more lifted appearance of the jawline.

Some people refer to this treatment as the Nefertiti lift.

In this case, the treatment of choice would be with the use of muscle relaxing injections (AKA Botox) It could be that all of the above treatments are recommended for some people.

As you can see, the primary issue may be coming from higher ( or lower) in your face, therefore, don’t be surprised if the recommended treatment seems unrelated to your initial concerns.

This will always be explained in full detail at your appointment to allow you to make decisions.

Whilst it is very good news that there are solutions, in order to significantly improve the appearance of jowls, some people may require multiple syringes of dermal filler which can become costly.

As a results driven clinic, we will give you straightforward and honest advice, even if this means we feel that dermal fillers and muscle relaxants would not be sufficient to address your concerns and recommend seeking a surgical alternative.
